The Mariners received good news about the ankle injury J.P. Crawford suffered in Tuesday night’s game against the Rangers. Apparently just not good enough to keep the 24-year-old shortstop off the 10-day injured list.

Early in Kyle Seager’s return, there’s a lot to like about his new look

Mariners manager Scott Servais told 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock and Salk on Wednesday morning that Crawford has a sprained ankle and will likely miss two weeks of action. The M’s officially placed Crawford on the 10-day IL and recalled utility man Dylan Moore from Triple-A Tacoma less than two hours later.

“Very disappointing when J.P. Crawford went down because he was one of the young guys that was really starting to crest at the right point,” Servais said. “Playing great, carrying himself really well, playing good defense. Crazy play late in the ball game, he rolls his ankle. Lucky for us it’s nothing too serious. … It’s not the high-ankle sprain. X-rays are all clear up there. It’s something that, athletes roll their ankles – it’s part of it. That’s a little disappointing, just the way he was going.”

Crawford got caught in a rundown between third base and home plate in Tuesday’s 11-4 loss to Texas, jamming his left ankle while trying to make it back to third base. He immediately went down and looked to be in considerable pain.

According to reporters at T-Mobile Park before Wednesday’s 12:40 p.m. Mariners-Rangers game, Crawford was on crutches while Moore, who was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma last weekend, was in the Mariners clubhouse.

Crawford is hitting .279 with one home run, six doubles, seven runs scored and five RBIs in 17 games since being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners acquired the former first-round draft pick from the Phillies over the offseason in a trade that sent Jean Segura to Philadelphia.

Moore, 26, is hitting .212 (11 for 52) with two home runs, three doubles, five RBIs, seven runs scored and two stolen bases in 29 games as a rookie for the Mariners.

It’s a good year for M’s to sell on trade market, but there’s a catch
