Pete Carroll wants to build on Seahawks big win

When you win a nationally televised game over a talented opponent, you go out and celebrate. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll definitely wanted to savor Thursday’s 31-14 triumph over Philadelphia in a major way.

“We had some young kids in with family last night, so we all went out to some nice spots in Seattle. There were a bunch of fans wearing jerseys and going crazy everywhere. We had a good time,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday morning on The Pete Carroll Show on 97.3 KIRO FM.

We all had a great time watching the Seahawks feed the “Beast Mode.” Marshawn Lynch ran over and around Philadelphia defenders on his way to 148 yards and two touchdowns. The offensive line and tight ends had a fine game as well.

“They really dominated the line of scrimmage against an aggressive, fast group. We hoped our size and ability to come off the football would be a factor. I think you can see we’re improving, and it’s coming together,” said Carroll.

Seattle’s offensive line may have suffered another casualty though. Left tackle Russell Okung suffered a pectoral injury when he got tangled up with Eagles defender Trent Cole.

Speaking of the injury, Carroll didn’t sound very optimistic. “I’m not sure what happened, other than he got tussled and thrown down. He was really hurting last night. We’ll keep our fingers crossed, but it doesn’t look good.”

The coach liked what he saw from wide receiver Golden Tate, who hauled in a touchdown pass from Tarvaris Jackson in the third quarter. Tate was making his first start because Sidney Rice was placed on injured reserve following his second concussion of the season.

Tate actually forgot he was starting and that led to a bizarre situation to begin the game. He was on the sideline waiting for NBA legend Bill Russell to raise the 12th Man flag but Seattle’s offense had only ten men in the huddle.

“He missed the darn kickoff, I don’t know how it happened,” Carroll chuckled. “It was a terrible way to start. Our guys shook it off and played a good game.”

After playing two games in five days, the Seahawks get much needed time off until the Dec. 12 game against the visiting St. Louis Rams. The coach is already looking forward to another nationally televised game on Monday Night Football.

“We get to go back in our stadium on a Monday night. The place should be electric once again. It will be fun to see if we can build on this win and get another one. It would be cool.”
