RB Marshawn Lynch fined for wearing Skittles cleats

Dec 31, 2011, 9:05 AM | Updated: 10:17 am

Whenever Marshawn Lynch scores a touchdown at CenturyLink Field, it rains skittles in the endzone. But when Lynch wears Skittles cleats during a game, the NFL takes money from his bank account.

The Seahawks’ running back was fined $10,000 for wearing his customized Skittles cleats from Nike during last Saturday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Lynch received a heftier fine because he had already been fined $5,000 for wearing green socks during the Monday night game against St. Louis earlier this month.

Lynch’s affection for Skittles became apparent during a Thursday night game against Philadelphia when cameras caught the running back eating Skittles after scoring a touchdown early in the game.

According to Lynch, the affection dates back to when his mother would give him the candy before games in high school.

The Seahawks’ final game of the season kicks off Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on 97.3 KIRO FM and 710 ESPN Seattle. Pregame starts at 10:00 a.m.
