As the Seahawks head to the Super Bowl, KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show is taking a look back at all the great players who have fueled the enthusiasm for the this Seattle team.

Quarterback Dave Krieg played for the Seahawks for eleven seasons and tells Monson he’s humbled by the role he’s played in such a great organization.

“To be a part of it, be a part of the Seattle Seahawks and the 12th Man, I’m just flattered, honored and humbled,” says Krieg, who adds it’s great to see the 12th Man being recognized.

“You don’t see many teams actually acknowledge the 12th Man and make a big deal, and raise the flag,” says Krieg. “I’m so glad the fans are getting the notoriety they do, because ultimately they take care and pay for everything. Without them we’d be nowhere, and I’m glad they’re getting their just reward.”

Krieg says even back in his day the Seahawks fans were great and playing before that enthusiastic crowd was a big change from the small college of 300 students he played before in Wisconsin.

“Coming to the Kingdome was a big deal to me,” says Krieg. “To make it in the NFL and play, it’s just a dream come true. It’s a Walter Mitty story to say the least.”

He also says he owes a debt of gratitude to the people of Seattle and all those who helped him grow up here.

“All the people I’ve met that have helped me become a better person and everything, I just owe this city, all these people here, the whole state of Washington, a great, great deal.”

Krieg says he’s planning to cheer on the Seahawks at the Super Bowl with his two sons.

“I’m going back to New York,” says Krieg. “I cannot wait to be a part of this. I’m so glad the Seahawks are having me be a part of it.”
