Trust

Over the last three months we have we have discussed “trust” in a number of ways:

–The Seahawks trusting their plan and draft evaluations

–Don Wakamatsu gaining the trust of his team through his consistent message

–The Mariners fan base trusting the course that Jack Z. is plotting

–Whether or not Jake Heaps could trust in the direction of the Husky football program

Tuesday night Nick Montana confirmed his trust in Steve Sarkisian’s Husky football program, and a 2010 recruiting class that already had nine verbal commitments, not only got it’s 10th commit, it also got an infusion of bloodlines it desperately needed. I had said last Friday after Heaps departure to BYU that the Huskies margin of error had shrunk, and it was paramount for the program to land either quarterback Jesse Scroggins or Nick Montana. Where Scroggins may have a higher ceiling because of his top end athleticism, he will have to develop as a passer. Montana’s strengths, on the other hand, are his football acumen, his passing touch and accuracy, and an athletic frame (6’1 180 pounds) that will continue to grow in strength. In talking to sources close to the program, Montana is the type of quarterback a coach can “trust” to lead his team and make the right decisions. And here’s why I believe the Montana’s made this decision….

–The relationship between Nick and Sark, first and foremost

–Sark’s track record of developing QB’s

–Sark’s offensive system, a fit for Nick’s strengths and respected by Dad

–Location: easy for family travel, and a community Nick can call his own

–An Athletic Director and University President committed to the program

Remember, Dad and Son had traversed the country this year, making unofficial visits from Ohio State to Alabama. Stanford, Notre Dame and Georgia wanted this kid. This commitment is a real compliment to Steve Sarkisian and the program’s relationships they are building. Trust is built over time, and for the Husky program a win in September will certainly mean much more than a recruiting win in June. Having said that, November 17th, 2007 was the program’s last win on the field…..
