Bill Krueger likes Doug Fister, Ian Snell…. Not so much

Doug Fister has looked great in his first two starts. On August 11th he threw six innings against the White Sox, giving up just one hit. On Sunday afternoon he faced one of the best offensive teams in baseball, the Yankees. Fister struck out 4 (including Alex Rodriguez) and didn’t surrender a walk, he lasted 7 innings allowing only 3 runs, leading the Mariners to their only win of the series.

Fister is pitching well despite not having incredible stuff. FSN analyst Bill Krueger came on the show and thinks that it is possible for Fister to add MPH to his fastball with a “long toss program and doing some more leg strengthening and core strengthening.” Krueger thinks it would help but Fister doesn’t necessarily need to, with his height the ball comes at an angle that is tough to hit for the hitters.

On the show Krueger also talked about how valuable it is to have experience in the minor leagues and likes that Brandon Morrow is getting a chance to learn in the minors. Fister has over 400 innings in the minors and Bill thinks that is why he has pitched so well right away.

Krueger wants to see more of Ian Snell but so far he didn’t sound like he was a very big Snell fan. Krueger had this to say on Snell: “I just don’t see him understanding the game of pitching very well and he’s hit the wall.” Ouch.
