Ryon Healy, one of the Mariners’ key acquisitions this offseason, has a hand injury and is undergoing tests to determine the extent of the injury, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times and Greg Johns of MLB.com.

That was the morning surprise on the day Mariners pitchers and catchers report to the team’s spring training complex in Peoria, Ariz.

Per Divish, manager Scott Servais said Healy experienced pain in his hand in early offseason workouts and was shut down by the Mariners for a period of time. The pain came back when he returned to workouts.

Healy, 26, was acquired in a trade from the Oakland Athletics in November. Coming off a 2017 season in which he hit .271 with 25 home runs, 78 RBIs and a .754 on-base plus slugging percentage, he had been penciled in to be Seattle’s starting first basemen.
