LISTEN: Brock: what it's like to play under Jim Zorn

As far as Brock Huard knows, his former quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn hasn’t been interviewed for the Seahawks’ quarterback coach position – nor brought inside the team’s headquarters – but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a phenomenal asset to Seattle’s coaching staff.

Jim Zorn on Above and Beyond with Brock Huard

“From what I understand, this has not made a ton of headway,” Huard said during Monday morning’s Brock and Salk on 710 ESPN Seattle. “(But) when the dust settles, I hope that Jim gets in that building to make a case for himself, because I think he’ll make a pretty strong one.”

Former NFL executive and current broadcaster Michael Lombardi reported Saturday that Seattle “has a strong interest” in hiring Zorn as their quarterbacks coach. Huard believes Zorn would be a great addition.

“I’m here to tell you if you want something different, Jim Zorn is going to bring something different,” Huard said. “He is going to change the dynamic in that building. I think many of us have looked at Pete Carroll and his hyper-positivity and the way he views the world and thought, ‘Man, that’s Jim. That fits Jim.’ Jim is just such a positive force and he just never gets weighed down by anything. He’s never overwhelmed by any moment or scenario. Plus, he just looks at the game, and looks at quarterback and coaching (the quarterback position) very differently.”

A story that best embodies Zorn as a coach is one that also left Huard feeling a bit embarrassed when he was a then-member of the Seahawks.

“It is sitting on a practice field and getting the look you want and just missing the throw … and Jim is the guy that’s going to hold Russell and hold the quarterback accountable. He’s the guy that says, ‘That’s a bad throw! That was a bad throw by the quarterback!’ He is that guy on the practice field that is willing to put it out there. And I remember the first time, (Matt Hasselbeck and Trent Dilfer) or me were like, ‘Hey dude, I got that, do you need to let everyone know?’ but I think it was on purpose; like, (the quarterback) is no different than anyone else, and we’re going to hold him to the same standard as everybody else.”
