Seahawks Insider: Rees Odhiambo impressive in his first start

Rees Odhiambo’s first start at left tackle wasn’t perfect.
He gave up one quarterback pressure, which resulted in a hit on quarterback Russell Wilson, and there was also a run play he could have targeted better. But coach Pete Carroll gave a very positive review to Odhiambo’s first start after George Fant was lost to a season-ending knee injury.
“I thought he did pretty well,” Carroll said after Friday’s game.

Matt Tobin also played at left tackle less than a week after being acquired from Philadelphia, and Carroll pointed out that Seattle was effective running the ball to the left when Tobin was in the game.
Tobin is just getting acclimated to the Seahawks, though. Odhiambo, on the other hand, is getting the first chance to be a full-time starter.
“We have a real opportunity for somebody to step in and go,” Carroll said. “I was with Rees a lot this week making sure that he’s ready for this and doing it right and handling it properly. His mind was very clear. He played very clear in the game and was not bothered by the pressure of that or the stress that that could bring. And I was really proud of him for that.
“He wants to do really well. He’s a really good worker and all that. Smart kid. He just wants to come through because he knows we need him. So first time out when he really knew he was the starter and all that, did a good job.”
