LISTEN: Kasen Williams on why his biggest goal during Seahawks games is on special teams

Current Seahawks wide receiver and former Washington Husky Kasen Williams has been making his case for the final-53 with phenomenal preseason highlights. On Monday, Williams joined Mike Salk and guest host Danny O’Neil on “Brock and Salk” to talk about the importance of special teams, the advice he’s been getting from Doug Baldwin, and meeting a big celebrity at Seahawks headquarters.

What we learned: Kasen Williams is making this team

Through two preseason games, Williams has six receptions for 147 yards and one touchdown. Notably, he also made an impressive tackle on a kickoff return against the Vikings. The Washington native has been on Seattle’s practice squad for two years and told Salk and Danny he knows that ability makes all the difference when it comes to making a final roster.

“That (tackle) was huge for me just because I know trying to have made this team for the last two years, you can make as many plays on offense… all day long, but if I’m not felt on special teams I’m not going to make this team,” Williams said. “That play in and of itself was really huge for me because I’m letting them know that I have the ability to go out and make big plays on special teams. And it doesn’t matter if I just scored a touchdown or not, I just needed to make that play, and it was cool for me, I was very excited about it.”

Williams said staying healthy has made all the difference between this preseason and last.

“Last year I really felt like I was going to be able to do the things I’m doing now, but because of the hamstring injury it set me back a little bit and I wasn’t able to play in the games and get the film out that I’m getting out now,” Williams said. “So I think the big thing for me is just being able to stay healthy and play in all four of these preseason games.”

Williams also talked about the veteran leadership and advice he’s received from fellow wide receiver Doug Baldwin, and what it was like meeting Ice Cube and Allen Iverson at Seahawks headquarters. Listen to the entire interview above.
