LISTEN: Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise on returning from injury

As a rookie in 2016, running back C.J. Prosise had his share of moments that showed why the Seahawks drafted him in the third round. There wasn’t much time to bask in the glory for Prosise, though.

The former Notre Dame running back and wide receiver had a impressive two-game run last November, totaling 66 rushing yards and 87 receiving yards in a 31-24 win over New England, then reeling off a 72-yard touchdown run the next week against Philadelphia. But in that same game against the Eagles, he suffered a fracture to his scapula (shoulder blade) that put him out of action.

Prosise was back and not limited in any way during Seattle’s minicamp this week, however, and he told “Bob, Groz and Tom” that he’s in good shape after a rough end to his first season in the NFL.

“I’m 100 percent now,” Prosise said. “Passed a physical on Monday.”

Not only is Prosise at full strength, he’s looking to prove that he can be more of an impact player who, most importantly, can stay on the field.

“I was so excited to get back in and just kinda show how I improved, especially this offseason,” he said. “I was down in Arizona training, working as hard as I can to get bigger, stronger, faster, and I think I definitely did that.”

Prosise will have some work to do to get opportunities in 2017, as he’ll have to battle with free-agent addition Eddie Lacy and another promising rusher coming off of a significant injury last season, Thomas Rawls. Prosise’s pass-catching abilities, however, mean he’ll always be an option on third down.

If there’s one benefit to Prosise’s injury, the timing may have given him a leg up in preparing for 2017.

“I was just in a lot of pain all the time, just where the injury was at, but once it healed up, it healed up perfectly,” he said. “I started training right after the season got finished, couple weeks after the season. It was tough for me just having to watch from the outside kinda looking in.”
