RENTON – A few injury updates from Seahawks coach Pete Carroll following the team’s Monday practice:
• Carroll gave a brief response when asked how quarterback Russell Wilson looks following the team’s bye week, as if to say that his knee and ankle injuries are no longer issues. “He looked fine today,” Carroll said. “He looked normal.” Asked if Wilson is still getting treatment for his sprained ankle, Carroll said he is but that Wilson “feels really good about it.” Teams aren’t required to provide participation reports for what are known as “bonus practices” on Mondays coming off bye weeks – teams typically don’t practice on Mondays during normal weeks – but Carroll’s comments suggest that Wilson practiced without limitation as he has all along despite both his ankle and knee injuries.
• Carroll said rookie defensive tackle Jarran Reed will practice Wednesday and is on track to return Sunday after missing Seattle’s last game with a hip injury.
• It may be at least another week before rookie running back C.J. Prosise returns to the Seahawks’ backfield. Prosise has been practicing for several weeks since he broke a bone in his hand in Seattle’s opener, but he hasn’t been able to play in games with the cast he’s had to wear. Carroll said last week that he hoped Prosise would be able to ditch the cast once the team returned from its bye, but his comments on Monday left the impression that it will take longer. Carroll: “He has a test today. We’ll find out. We won’t know any more today than we did, but he’s really nearing the end. We’re hoping for a good report that everything is going right, then at that point he’s just a week or two away before he’s really out of the cast and ready to go.” C.J. Spiller filled in capably as Seattle’s third-down back in Week 4 against the Jets. His addition may reduce the urgency for Prosise to return.
• Carroll said rookie defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson could return to practice next week following surgery for a broken bone in his hand. Carroll said that surgery as well as the one linebacker Mike Morgan had for his sports hernia were successful (not that coaches ever say otherwise). As mentioned, Morgan can’t return from Injured Reserve until Week 13 at the earliest.
• Carroll said “everything is going fine” in running back Thomas Rawls’ recovery from a crack in his fibula and that there’s no change in his status. General manager John Schneider said before Seattle’s Week-4 game against the Jets that Rawls would be out about another month.
