Washington redshirt freshman Troy Williams will make his first career start at quarterback Saturday against No. 14 Arizona State, filling in for the injured Cyler Miles, according to Adam Jude of The Seattle Times.
Williams has appeared in two games this season – he didn’t attempt a pass and rushed for five yards on Sept. 20 against Georgia State, then passed 5 for 10 for 37 yards and rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown after replacing Miles late in last week’s game vs. Oregon.
Miles left the Oregon game in the second half with concussion-like symptoms. Washington coach Chris Petersen indicated Monday that the team would move ahead with Miles as the starter for the Arizona State game barring any setbacks, and said Thursday that Miles was day-to-day.
Williams is a 6-foot-2, 183-pound native of Carson, Calif. He began the season as the Huskies’ third-string quarterback behind Miles and sophomore Jeff Lindquist, who started Washington’s season opener in Hawaii.
