Marcus Peters putting abrupt end to UW career behind him at combine

Talent is no issue for teams when it comes to NFL Draft prospect Marcus Peters. That doesn’t mean there aren’t questions surrounding the former Washington Huskies cornerback, though.
Peters is a projected first-round pick, but his dismissal from the UW football program last November cast a lot of doubt on his character, something teams have been asking him about left and right at the NFL scouting combine this week in Indianapolis.
John Clayton caught up with Peters at the combine Saturday on 710 ESPN Seattle’s “The John Clayton Show,” giving Peters a chance to talk about what he learned after multiple run-ins with Chris Petersen’s staff at Washington ended his college career with four regular-season games to go in his junior season.
“I’m learning from the mistakes,” Peters said. “I made some decisions that cost me to be dismissed me from my team, it cost me to have football taken away from me … It was a huge disappointment on my behalf.”
Teams may be willing to take Peters in the first round simply because of his skill – he had eight interceptions in 2013 and three more in 2014 despite playing in only eight games – but the way he’s handled himself at the combine should help minimize concerns about his attitude.
“Like I just tell (teams), ‘I’m learning from it. I’m giving you my full 100 percent genuine answer, if you trust in me and you take the pick on me, you’re getting the best corner in the draft, no doubt,’ ” he said. “I have matured a lot more. I know how to address certain situations, pick and choose my battles wisely. I go be the football player and let them do all the coaching.”
