Video: Why Huard thinks Adams should be at Seahawks OTAs

With rookie minicamp in the books, the next step for the Seattle Seahawks this offseason is organized team activities (OTAs), which kick off next week.

Huard: Why 2 top Seattle Seahawks rookies have the biggest learning curve

While OTAs have been and still are voluntary, they’re an important part of the offseason. And one of the Seahawks’ highest-paid players will not be attending the workouts.

That would be safety Jamal Adams, who will make more money than any player on Seattle’s roster next season.

Adams missed all but one game last year due to a severe quad injury, and according to head coach Pete Carroll, Adams will not attend OTAs, instead remaining where he’s at and rehabbing from his injury. That is also the case for linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who tore his ACL late last season.

Even though Adams wouldn’t be able to workout with the team if he attended OTAs, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard isn’t a fan of Adams not being with his team at this stage of the offseason. Huard dove into his thoughts on Adams missing OTAs during Tuesday’s Brock and Salk, and you can listen and watch the full conversation with the video player at the top of this story.

It’s not uncommon for players – especially veterans – to not attend OTAs, but Huard has said for years how important he thinks it is for a team’s stars to be a part of those workouts.

“You want your guys to be there … and you certainly need your highest-paid players to be a part of that. And they’re the frontrunners of that,” Huard said. “And in this case, everyone else is (showing up) on this team. DK (Metcalf) with Geno (Smith). They’re there with Tyler (Lockett). They’re working. I just can’t grasp being in Florida 3,000 miles away posting your Instagram videos of you on your treadmill. Come on, bro. Go be with your team.”
