The Seahawks have unveiled their initial 53-man roster with Tuesday’s NFL deadline having passed. There aren’t too many surprises when looking at the roster, though it looks very different after the team traded Russell Wilson and released Bobby Wagner earlier this offseason.

Roster Notes

• This is just the initial 53-man roster as teams had to reduce their roster to that size by 1 p.m. Tuesday. This is not necessarily the 53-man roster that the Seahawks will have when they host the Denver Broncos in Week 1, especially with so many players hitting waivers as a result of roster cutdowns.

• Among the most notable cuts the Seahawks made were defensive backs Marquise Blair and Justin Coleman, quarterback Jacob Eason and receivers Bo Melton (rookie seventh-round pick), Freddie Swain and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.

• Despite some speculation he may be cut, 2019 first-round defensive lineman L.J. Collier made the roster. He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.

• Two undrafted rookie free agents made the roster: Joshua Onujiogu and Joey Blount.

• Sixth-round pass rusher Tyreke Smith was placed on injured reserve to start the season, so he must miss at least the first four games of the year before he can be added back to the active roster.

• Any player waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday who clears waivers can re-join the team on the practice squad. Coleman is not subject to waivers as he’s a vested veteran. Melton is the lone draft pick to not make the roster aside from Smith, though Smith remains on the team by being on injured reserve. Melton seems like a top practice squad candidate for the Seahawks, but he must clear waivers first.
