Kyle Lewis, Mariners’ top pick, to miss rest of season with knee injury

Outfielder Kyle Lewis, the Mariners’ top pick in the 2016 draft, will miss the remainder of his first professional season and possibly longer due to a serious knee injury.
The Mariners announced Wednesday that Lewis tore the ACL as well as the medial and lateral meniscus in his right knee during a collision at home plate Tuesday while playing for the Everett AquaSox, the organization’s Short-A affiliate.
The Mariners drafted Lewis, 21, with the 11th overall out of Mercer University in Macon, Ga., where he recently earned Baseball America’s Player of the Year honors as a junior. Lewis was hitting .299 (35 for 117) with 16 extra-base hits, 26 RBIs and a .915 OPS in 30 games with Everett.
