Seahawks 33, Texans 13: Penny breaks out | Instant Reaction | Stats

Seattle scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter Sunday to pull away from the Houston Texans for a 33-13 win, improving the Seahawks to 5-8 on the season and keeping their slim playoff chances in the NFC alive.

Running back Rashaad Penny had maybe his best game in the NFL and at least his best since suffering a season-ending torn ACL in 2019, rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett also stood out for Seattle, making five catches for 142 yards and a score, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards for the third straight season along the way.

Houston, which started strong on offense and trailed by only six points entering the final quarter, fell to 2-11 this season with the loss.

Get a look at the fast facts below.

Scoring plays and highlights

First half

The Seahawks got off to a rough start on defense while it was quite the opposite for Texans QB Davis Mills, who completed each of his first 14 pass attempts. That including an impressive opening drive that covered 75 yards on seven plays, capped off by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Mills to Brevin Johnson.

Seattle answered with a 38-yard Jason Myers field goal, and after a stop on defense, a 32-yard Rashaad Penny touchdown run gave the Seahawks a 10-7 lead as time expired to end the first quarter.

Houston tied things up 10-10 on a 21-yard Ka’imi Fairbairn field goal, but the Seahawks had another big play in them as Russell Wilson hit a wide-open Tyler Lockett on a long bomb for a 55-yard TD. Seattle took just a six-point lead, however, as Myers missed the PAT.

The Texans got back within three points with a booming 61-yard Fairbairn field goal – you read that right, 61 yards – at the end of the half.

Second half

Seattle nearly took a two-score lead with a touchdown pass to DK Metcalf, but it was called back due to a holding call and the Seahawks had to settle for a 38-yard field goal, pushing their lead to 19-13 with 4:35 left in the third quarter.

The Hawks got that two-score lead midway through the fourth, however. Lockett hauled in a 29-yard catch along the sideline to go over 1,000 receiving yards for the third season in a row, joining Steve Largent as the only Seahawks to accomplish that feat. Seattle then got help from a defensive pass interference call on a target of Metcalf, and tight end Gerald Everett was ruled to have just broken the plane of the end zone for a 1-yard TD catch.

The Seahawks added a two-point conversion as Wilson found Lockett in the back of the end zone, making it 27-13 with 7:28 remaining.

Seattle then forced Houston into a turnover on downs around midfield, allowing Penny to put the game away with a 47-yard scamper to paydirt.
