Monday was a good time for 710 ESPN Seattle’s Wyman and Bob to catch up with Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

Stacy Rost’s Takeaways: Pair of Seahawks quietly vital to 12-win season

Lockett had one of his best games of the season only a day prior, leading the Hawks with 12 catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns as they came back to beat the San Francisco 49ers 26-23 and finish the 2020 campaign with 12 wins. The game was monumental for Lockett for another reason, though.

Shortly after DK Metcalf broke Hall of Famer Steve Largent’s longstanding franchise record for receiving yards in a season, Lockett took ownership of another Seahawks record. With his seventh catch of the game, he overtook Bobby Engram and Doug Baldwin, his former teammate, for most receptions in a season. Baldwin and Engram shared the previous record at 94, and Lockett not only owns it now but became the first Seahawks player with 100 catches in a year.

In talking about the record with Dave Wyman and Bob Stelton during the Player Spotlight segment, the 28-year-old Lockett shared the perspective he has on his record courtesy of experiences earlier in his career, one that’s had its share of setbacks.

“I broke my leg in 2016, and I had overcompensation with my other knee because of that as I was coming back in,” Lockett said. “Just the fact that I still got that opportunity (to break the record) and just the fact that I kept pressing and kept playing and just tried to continue to do what I could do and help the team, it’s like I’m starting to really enjoy just the grind of what it’s like to be in the NFL and what’s it like to find the best me in the NFL as I play for God.”

While Lockett had a catch that cemented his name in the record books, another one of Seattle’s receivers had a catch on Sunday that had a lot of meaning. David Moore, who had gone the day without a reception, was thrown a short pass in the final moments when Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson could have kneeled to run out the clock. The reason? It was Moore’s 35th reception of the year, which kicked in a $100,000 incentive in his contract.

For as big as Lockett’s day was, he said Moore’s catch was even bigger to him.

“To me that was probably the most memorable, if not exciting, moment of my career, just seeing that happen,” he said. “That’s something that you do in ‘Madden’ – when you know the game is over in ‘Madden’ and you don’t want to take a knee. But we didn’t do that because of how you play in ‘Madden.’ We did that because we wanted to be able to do that for David, who’s done a tremendous job this year.”

Lockett discussed much more during the interview with Wyman and Bob, including an interesting way he’s improved his game and whether or not he misses being Seattle’s return man on punts and kickoffs.
