The wound was still fresh. It had been a season and a half but the memory of the goal line interception that had denied the Seahawks a second straight Super Bowl victory was on everyone’s mind when Seattle went to New England for a primetime showdown in Week 10 of the 2016 season.

What makes the Seahawks so similar to Chiefs a year before SB win

The Patriots were 7-1 while the Seahawks (5-2-1) were struggling to find a ground game after the retirement of Marshawn Lynch and injury to Thomas Rawls. Both teams were ready and a hard-hitting, physical affair ensued.

A particular hard hit on Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski by Seahawks safety Earl Thomas stood out. It was also the signature game for C.J. Prosise, who produced over 165 yards rushing and receiving. Russell Wilson hooked up three times with Doug Baldwin, including a 15-yarder to put the Seahawks up seven with a little over four minutes to go. The Seahawks attempted a two-point conversion which failed, meaning a Patriots TD and two-point conversion would beat them.

Sure enough, Tom Brady started methodically moving the Pats into position, and with 43 seconds left New England had a first-and-goal at the 2. A QB sneak and two other running plays failed, so it came down to fourth-and-goal with 11 seconds left. Brady looked for Gronkowski but strong safety Kam Chancellor came up big, and the Seahawks had the goal line stop and the victory this time.

The Seahawks would be knocked out of the playoffs by the Falcons and the Legion of Boom would begin to be dismantled, but at least they had some revenge – though of course it didn’t make up for the Super Bowl two seasons prior. As for the Patriots, they had a comeback for the ages in beating Atlanta in Super Bowl LI.
