Kaepernick on Sherman: ‘He’s afraid’ of 49ers WRs

The bad blood between the Seahawks and their NFC West archrivals the San Francisco 49ers hasn’t died down over the last 11 days, as evidenced by the comments 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made about Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

In an interview with the New York Post published Thursday, Kaepernick made it clear he didn’t appreciate Sherman’s now-infamous actions after tipping a Kaepernick pass intended for receiver Michael Crabtree to Seattle linebacker Malcolm Smith to seal the Seahawks’ 23-17 win in the NFC title game Jan. 19.

“I think everyone knows his comments were ridiculous,” Kaepernick said. “As my dad has always told me, if you have to tell people how good you are, then how good are you really? If you have to go on national TV and try to say you’re the best cornerback in the league, then you’ve got your own insecurities.”

Sherman ruffled feathers by trying to shake hands with Crabtree after the play, and then making a choke gesture in Kaepernick’s direction. Moments later, he yelled his way through a postgame interview with FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews, during which he called Crabtree a “sorry receiver.”

Kaepernick maintained that he was close to giving the 49ers the win with his throw to Crabtree.

“I don’t care who’s out there. I had Crabtree one-on-one with half of the field to himself, and I’m going to take that every single time,” Kaepernick said. “He made a good play on that ball, but if I throw it a foot farther, it’s a touchdown and now you’re the goat, Richard Sherman.

“It’s a game of inches. The inches were in (Sherman’s) favor in that case, but this game will humble you very quickly.”

He added that he believes Sherman fears San Francisco’s receivers.

“I feel like he’s afraid of our receivers, and that’s something I look forward to (exploiting) next year.”

Even with his postgame outburst, Kaepernick said Sherman didn’t get into his head.

“Did that make you feel better about yourself? Then go ahead, because I’m not worried about you,” Kaepernick said. “I’m just worried about winning games and helping us get to the Super Bowl.”
