He didn’t specify if Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor would play Sunday, but head coach Pete Carroll did say that this week is the beginning.

“We really feel like this is the start,” Carroll said during a press conference where Chancellor spoke about his return. “Maybe nobody else does. I don’t really care about who else has an opinion about that.”

With Chancellor back after a holdout that stretched through preseason and the first two games of the regular season, Carroll said now is the time for the Seahawks to look forward. The team has worked hard to discipline itself on not looking back, he added.

“This is a great instance to do just that,” he said. “This is a huge opportunity for us to get moving forward.”

And moving forward is exactly what the Seahawks need to do. With an 0-2 record after their 27-17 loss to the Packers, the defending NFC champions need to focus on their upcoming Sunday game against the Chicago Bears. The Bears (0-2) are just as hungry for a win as the Seahawks.

Chicago has posed problems for the Seahawks in the past, Carroll said. With both teams vying for their first win, it could be a brawl.

Here are some additional quotes from Carroll’s press conference.

(On if he envisions having to deal with this in the offseason) “Kam’s going to be with us for a long time. We hope he’ll always be a Seahawk, and that’s all we’ve ever thought of it, nothing’s ever changed in that. Really nothing’s ever changed in his thought of that either, we’re very much in concert about that and we’ll look forward to a really long relationship. It’s been fantastic until now, and we’re going to just continue it.”

(On how the secondary unit looks with Kam Chancellor back) “Well, we look a little bit bigger, a little stronger and all that. You can’t ignore the fact that he brings to us. So it was good that other guys got to play. It was great for Dion [Bailey], it was great for DeShawn Shead to play, and all of that’s going to pay off. We’ve created a little bit more flexibility than we’ve had in the past. To see DeShawn play corner one week and then play safety the next week, and do well in both spots, is a huge boost to us to know that we can count on him, and we’ll try to continue to benefit from that we’ve gained so far.”

(On if Russell Wilson is still learning and developing with Jimmy Graham) “Let me say it this way, I think he’ll be more comfortable with more time working together. That makes sense to me to think that we’ve worked really hard at all of the different throws, and the different angles, and the things that come up, and try to take advantage of his range and all that. We’re working at that. But we’ll get better. We’ll improve as we go, we just need more turns.”

(On finishing games in the fourth quarter better) “We have to continue to do things right. Be in the right spots, make sure we make the plays that we always make, that’s really kind of the – it’s always been the battle cry about finishing, is that you do right longer than the other guys. We’ve made enough little errors, not in position here or there like we have been earlier in the game or like we need to be, and so it’s really just the focus on the details as we finish the game out. This is an area we can specifically improve on, and it’s very important and very crucial to us obviously in the last couple of weeks, we got to get something done there and we’re after it.”
