Groz’s Just a Minute: Seahawks are out, so who wins on Sunday?

Jan 17, 2020, 12:41 PM

The Seahawks’ season is over after last week’s 28-23 loss in the divisional round, but the NFL seasons rolls on with the AFC and NFC championship games this Sunday and you know 710 ESPN Seattle’s Dave “The Groz” Grosby will be watching.

Huard: The Seahawks’ defense needs to get a ‘ballhawk’ at cornerback

In the NFC, two teams that the Seahawks are all too familiar with will be squaring off. The San Francisco 49ers, who won the NFC West ahead of Seattle, host the Green Bay Packers, who ended the Seahawks’ season last week. That game came down to a matter of inches and a replay review that went against the Seahawks, similarly to how Seattle’s Week 17 loss to San Francisco ended.

With the way the 49ers looked last week against the Minnesota Vikings, as well as for most of the regular season, Groz sees San Francisco handling the Packers like they did in Week 12, when they won 37-8.

The AFC title game is far more interesting, as the Kansas City Chiefs and their high-powered aerial offense led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes host the No. 6 seed Tennessee Titans, who run a game plan Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll is likely proud of in running the ball with star running back Derrick Henry, controlling the clock and playing stout defense. Henry has 377 yards in the Titans’ two playoff wins.

“How do you fathom a team that’s won playoff games with their quarterback failing to throw for at least 100 yards in either of them?” Groz said in his latest Just a Minute video. “Will Kansas City be the first team to control Henry? Of course, the Titans have to slow down Mahomes and company. But I have a feeling this game might be a classic and I give the Titans a big shot.”

You can hear Groz’s full thoughts on the playoffs in the attached video. You can listen to Groz every day at 11:45 a.m. with John Clayton on 710 ESPN Seattle.
