Note: Due to Thanksgiving travel your intrepid T-Birds beat reporter was not able to attend Wednesday’s game against Kootenay. So I present to you a brief recap of last night’s game. You can check out the team’s official recap here. Never fear, I will be back to the Sho for Saturday’s game against the Portland Winterhawks. See you there.
The Thunderbirds got two goals from Luke Lockhart and four points from Alex Delnov to handle the Kootenay Ice Wednesday night. After struggling to get to the net against Spokane on Saturday the team seemed to do a much better job and was rewarded with seven goals.
The line of Roberts Lipsbergs-Alex Delnov-Connor Honey continues to be a dominant line for Seattle. The line combined for three of the T-Birds seven goals and together had eight points on the night. Delnov continues to be the hottest player on the roster as he added a goal and three assists to his season totals. He now has 21 points and is tied with Portland’s Oliver Bjorkstrand for the WHL rookie scoring lead.
Luke Lockhart potted two goals and is the first Seattle player to hit the ten goal mark. He continues to be on pace to easily surpass his 16 goal total from last year.
Riley Sheen had a goal and three assists last night and continues to be a great story and great trade for the T-Birds. He now has 20 points on the season, which is a career high after only 23 games.
While it is way too early to look at these things, if the playoffs were to start today the T-Birds would be the seventh seed in the playoffs and would match up with the Portland Winterhawks in the first round. They are only three points out of the fifth spot (proving how worthless it is to talk about this now). So in a way, Saturday’s game with Portland could be a playoff preview.
Since it is Thanksgiving I want to take a moment to thank all of our readers for reading our silly site here and hope you all have a great weekend.
