In 2017, the Seattle Mariners were six games under .500 through 47 games. This year at the same point, they’re eight games over .500.

It’s been quite the impressive turnaround for a team that has still dealt with injuries to multiple key players and now is without All-Star second baseman and No. 3 hitter Robinson Canó due to an 80-game suspension.

So what’s the reason behind the Mariners maintaining a strong record and trailing the defending World Series champion Houston Astros by just two games in the American League West into late May?
