RENTON — Before Rees Odhiambo spent Sunday night in the hospital, he played an entire fourth quarter after being hit in the chest on an interception return.

Offensive line coach Tom Cable was asked after Thursday’s practice how his left tackle was able to get through the game.

Seahawks face an old nemesis that might now be an actual rival

“Typically in games you get nicked or you get whacked like he did,” Cable said, “and you’ve got work through it if you can. And he was able to do that so you’ve got to take your hat off to him. That’s certainly a level of toughness and all that, and we’re trying to take care of him this week, get him read to go for Sunday.”

Odhiambo suffered the injury in the third quarter. Odhiambo was struggling by the time J.D. McKissic scored the last of Seattle’s four straight touchdowns in the second half. He then had trouble catching his breath in the locker room after the game, and was ultimately diagnosed with a bruised sternum.

Odhiambo did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, and Cable was asked if he’ll be able to play on Sunday in Los Angeles.

“It looks like it,” Cable said.

Odhiambo became the Seahawks starting left tackle after an injury to George Fant in August. The Seahawks will announce the status of players after Friday’s practice. If Odhiambo is unable to play, Matt Tobin and Isaiah Battle are the two most likely candidates to step in at left tackle.
