A current Mariner and a former one are the American League’s co-Players of the Week.

Seattle left-hander James Paxton is sharing the honors with Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre, becoming the first pitcher and second player in Mariners history to win the award twice in a season.

Paxton, 28, didn’t allow a run in 13 innings over two starts last week, striking out 18 and walking none. He earned the win in both outings, giving him six wins in six starts for the month of July. For the season, he is 11-3 with a 2.68 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 125 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings over 18 starts. He previously won the award for the week of Apil 10-16.

Beltre, who played for Seattle from 2005 through 2009, went 11 for 23 over the week, including a double on Sunday to give him 3,000 hits for his career.

The Mariners begin a three-game set in Texas against Beltre’s Rangers at 5:05 Monday on 710 ESPN Seattle.
