A monster season for Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner has earned him his second All-Pro first team nomination.
The Associated Press named Wagner an first-team All-Pro after leading the NFL in tackles for the first time in his career. His 167 tackles were 18 more than the next best, Buffalo’s Zach Brown.
Also included on the All-Pro list was Seattle return man Tyler Lockett, selected by the AP as a second-team member. A first-team All-Pro as a rookie in 2015, Lockett was fourth this year in kick return average at 26.3 yards per return and 10th in punt return average at 8.4. Lockett is on injured reserve due to a broken tibia and fibula suffered in Seattle’s Dec. 24 game against Arizona.
O’Neil: Are Seahawks past their prime or biding their time?
Wagner, previously named a first-team All-Pro in 2014 and second-team All-Pro in 2015, is the third current Seahawks player to garner multiple first-team All-Pro honors, joining safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman. He was also named a Pro Bowler for the third time in his career last month.
“It still means a ton, still means a ton,” Wagner said to the AP when asked what it means to be a first-team All-Pro for the second time. “Those things are hard to come by. I will always be appreciative of the Pro Bowls and All-Pros because you look at guys who have played a long period of time at a very high level and weren’t able to get them for whatever reason. It definitely means a lot to me. It means the hard work in the offseason is recognized.”
Sherman, Thomas, safety Kam Chancellor, and defensive ends Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril all just missed the cut for the All-Pro second team by one or two votes.
