Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount Out of Control

In case you, like me, turned off the over-hyped, under-delivering Oregon-Boise State yawn fest last night, you missed Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount sucker-punching Boise State’s Byron Hout. The Oregon running back hit him in the face on field after the game AND can be seen swinging at his teammate Garrett Embry, who was trying to play peacemaker, in the video below.

Kevin Calabro

“The ESPN pxp team of Bob Davie and Mark Jones were right on. The punch was an uncalled for reaction. He was already suspended in February. It’s inexcusable and there’s a fan movement to suspend the guy altogether, and it’s not a rash reaction. Was he provoked? Probably. But I think Blount should be dropped from the program. What he did sends the wrong message. There’s too much at stake. To go after your teammate, shout at the fans, resist policeman, teammates, coaches, security guards, I think all merits being dropped from the program. He had an opportunity to get himself adjusted and has blown that. If he is suspended, or kicked out of the program, I think Boise State has to suspend Byron Hout for a game for unsportsmanlike conduct. He knew what he was doing.”

Mike Salk

“I hate our false sense of morality, the way we get up on our high horse and complain about this guy punching someone when it’s going to be the top-viewed moment on SportsCenter. Was he wrong? Yes. Should he have gone insane afterwards? No. But do we love watching this stuff? Absolutely.”

Blount left the field struggling with police officers, security guards, and Ducks assistant Scott Frost. John Canzano of the Oregonian reports that there “was a hostile brush with a Boise State fan, too.”

Strong words from Oregonian sports columnist John Canzano: The Ducks running back should be arrested and charged with assault today for slugging Hout, who wasn’t even looking. Also, Blount should be served up by first-year head coach Chip Kelly as a reminder of everything the program should never become.

Questions for Kevin Calabro listeners today: Should Ducks running back LeGarrette Blount be kicked off the team? Should he get one more chance? Should he serve jail time for his sucker punching Boise State’s Byron Hout? Weigh in below and we’ll read the best responses.
