Mariners activate Drew Storen from DL; stack lineup with lefties in finale vs. Angels

Sep 4, 2016, 11:01 AM

The Mariners are sticking with Ben Gamel at the top of a lefty-heavy lineup in Sunday’s series finale against the Angels.

Gamel, the Triple-A International League MVP who was acquired from the Yankees on Wednesday, has gone 1 for 6, with four walks, two runs and one RBI in his two games batting leadoff for Seattle. He moves back to right field, with Seth Smith taking over in left and batting second. Nelson Cruz, batting cleanup, and Chris Iannetta in the eight-hole are the only two righties in the lineup (Ketel Marte is a switch-hitter) against right-handed pitcher Matt Shoemaker.

The Mariners bolstered their bullpen Sunday by recalling right-handed reliever Drew Storen from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma,  activating him from the 15-day disabled list. Storen was placed on the DL on Aug. 22 with right shoulder inflammation.

Hisashi Iwakuma takes the mound for Seattle. With one more win, he will become the seventh pitcher in club history to record at least two seasons of 15 or more wins.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. and will be live on 710 ESPN Seattle, with the pregame show beginning at noon.
