The Mariners acquired Ben Gamel, a 24-year-old outfielder in the Yankees system, for minor-league right-handed pitchers Jio Orozco and Juan De Paula on Wednesday.
With the addition of Gamel, the Mariners’ 40-man roster is full ahead of Thursday’s September roster expansion. Gamel will join the M’s in time for their opener of their homestand against the Angels on Friday.
Gamel played 166 games this year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and was named the International League MVP on Tuesday with a .308 average, 80 runs scored, 51 RBIs, 26 doubles, six home runs and 19 stolen bases. He appeared in six games with the Yankees in 2016, going 1 for 8.
In 2015, Gamel was named Rookie of the Year in the International League.
De Paula, 18, and Orozco, 19, were both playing for the Arizona League Mariners.
