What, did you expect the Seahawks’ must-win regular season finale against the Los Angeles Rams to be… normal?

It certainly was anything but that. Seattle started the game with quarterback Geno Smith throwing an uncharacteristic interception, and even though the Seahawks came back to tie the game late and had a chance to win on a long field goal at the end of regulation, usually automatic kicker Jason Myers hit the upright from 46 yards to force overtime.

And after the Hawks went three-and-out to open OT, things were looking dire for Seattle and its playoff chances that hinged on winning this game.
The game wasn’t over, though, and Quandre Diggs made that abundantly clear. The Seahawks’ Pro Bowl safety picked off a deep attempt by Rams QB Baker Mayfield (sidenote: remember when we thought he might be Seattle’s QB this season?), setting up one more shot for Seattle.

That’s exactly what Smith, wide receiver Tyler Lockett and running back Kenneth Walker III needed, as they led the way on an eight-play, 50-yard drive to get the Hawks to third-and-7 on the Rams’ 14-yard line.

That proved to be the game-winning drive, as Myers’ ended it with a redemptive 32-yard field goal to give Seattle a 19-16 win and keep its playoff hopes alive at least into the night.

The Seahawks (9-8) won’t know until the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers (both 8-8) is over whether they’re going on to a playoff matchup against the NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers. A Packers win eliminates Seattle from postseason contention, while a Lions win or tie will send the Hawks to the postseason.
By the way, the Seahawks are sending their best regards to the Lions.
