Update: Seth Smith has been scratched from the Mariners lineup because of a bruise, according to 710 ESPN Seattle’s Shannon Drayer. He will be replaced as DH by Dae-Ho Lee.
Original: The Mariners will continue their post-All Star Game push for the postseason, with Nori Aoki back in the leadoff spot.
The Mariners have won seven of their last eight games, putting them two games behind Boston for the second Wild Card spot. Aoki has hit safely in 18 of his 19 games with an at-bat against the Athletics and is a career .325 hitter in 20 games against Oakland.
Nelson Cruz, who hit his 29th home run of the season in Saturday’s 4-3 win will roam right field. Cruz has hit 73 home runs in his first two seasons with Seattle, equaling Richie Sexson’s club record for most home runs in a two-season timespan.
The finale of the three-game set starts at the 1:05 and will air live on 710 ESPN Seattle. The pregame show begins at noon.
