Orioles reportedly showing interest in Mariners starter Wade Miley

Fresh off Wade Miley’s flirtation with a no-hitter, his name is being thrown around in rumors as Monday’s MLB trade deadline nears.
The Baltimore Orioles have been looking for a left-handed starter and have inquired about the 29-year-old Miley, according to Today’s Knuckleball MLB insider Jon Heyman. The Detroit Tigers were also added to the list of potential suitors for Miley on Sunday, per ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.
If Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto is indeed shopping Miley, he certainly couldn’t be more pleased with the veteran southpaw’s performance on Saturday at Wrigley Field. Miley out-dueled reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Jake Arrieta, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning and allowing just one run on one hit and one walk, striking out a season-high nine over seven frames to get the win. It’s been an up and down season for Miley, however, as he has a 4.98 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 7-8 record in his first year with Seattle.
The Mariners might be able to take advantage of a market that is shallow on available lefties by dealing Miley, who they acquired in the offseason from the Boston Red Sox along with minor-league reliever Jonathan Aro for starter Roenis Elias and reliever Carson Smith.
Seattle has also been linked to Reds All-Star outfielder Jay Bruce, though ESPN’s Jayson Stark tweeted Friday that the Mariners had also talked to Cincinnati about shortstop Zach Cozart. Angels right-handed reliever Joe Smith is another name that Seattle has reportedly shown interest in, according to Heyman.
One person who apparently won’t be involved in any Mariners trades is 23-year-old starting pitcher Taijuan Walker, who is currently on the 15-day disabled list working his way back from right foot tendinitis. Dipoto told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal that the Mariners are “not currently discussing Taijuan with anybody. He’ll stay right where he is.”
