John Clayton’s weekly conversation with “Bob and Groz” began with a question about Chris Clemons’ contract situation.

Clayton said he doesn’t expect the Seahawks and Clemons to reach an agreement before the Fourth of July, adding that the deal will likely be for three years at about $7 million or $8 million per year.

Clemons, who has led the Seahawks in sacks with 11 in each of the last two seasons, skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp last week. He reportedly turned down a three-year deal that would have averaged $6 million per year, which is about $1.5 million more than he is scheduled to make this season.

Clayton: “I think clearly to get a long-term deal [done] there’s going to have to be a little bit more money coming from the Seattle side, and I think they might be willing to do that. The question is: how much more are they willing to do to get this thing done?”

In the video below, Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby discuss Clemons’ stance and the way he has publicly handled the situation.
