Another year, another playoff berth for the Seattle Seahawks, who will be going to their ninth postseason under head coach Pete Carroll.

Pete Carroll Show: Seahawks playing defense ‘as good as anybody’

In one of the strangest years known to man, Carroll led his team to yet another playoff appearance, and the Seahawks have won the NFC West for the first time since 2016 by beating the Los Angeles Rams 20-9. Entering Week 17, the Seahawks are 11-4 and have a chance to get the conference’s No. 1 seed with a win and some help in other games.

The city of Seattle has had some incredible coaches leading the city’s professional sports franchises, but to Dave “The Groz” Grosby, it’s clear that Carroll is at the top of that group given his consistent track record of success since coming to the Pacific Northwest in 2010.

“One of my favorite sayings in sports is ‘don’t get tired of winning.’ And for the Seattle Seahawks and Pete Carroll, it has paid off big time,” Grosby said in his latest Just a Minute segment. “There really can be no argument that Carroll is the most successful in Seattle pro sports history, which dates back to 1967.”

As Grosby notes in the video, Carroll now has five division titles, which is tied with Mike Holmgren for the most in franchise history. But unlike Holmgren, Carroll went to two Super Bowls and won a title while in Seattle (Holmgren led Seattle to one Super Bowl, which it lost to Pittsburgh). Grosby also compared Carroll’s success to that of former Mariners manager Lou Pinella and former Sonics head coach George Karl.

The best comparison to Carroll in terms of success in Seattle, Grosby says, comes from the college ranks.

“Really only Don James at UW managed nine postseason appearances in an 11-year stretch like Carroll, but we’re talking pros here, and hands down no one compares to Pete,” he said. ” … You know Pete Carroll is going to go down as one of the greatest coaches ever and Seattle will be hard-pressed to find another so successful for so long.”
