Carlos Dunlap has been a revelation for the Seahawks and their pass rush since joining the team in a midseason trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. Unfortunately for Seattle, he’s now their biggest question mark.

Seahawks nickel CB Ugo Amadi’s play should have your attention

Dunlap suffered a foot injury late in the Seahawks’ 23-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, and head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that it’s unclear whether he will be able to play Sunday against the New York Giants at Seattle’s Lumen Field.

Carroll didn’t sound overly concerned about the long-term status of the two-time Pro Bowler, however.

“He’s got a sore foot. There’s a little something going on but nothing serious and so we’ll just need to see how he goes and handles the week,” Carroll said during his weekly Wednesday press conference. “I can’t tell you how he’ll be on gameday yet but we’re hopeful and he’s hopeful he’ll be able to play.”

Dunlap made his Seahawks debut in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills and had an immediate impact, registering 1.5 of what ended up being a season-best seven sacks by the defense. He has four sacks in four games since joining the team, and Seattle has 19 sacks as a team over that period compared to just 12 in seven games before he was added to the active roster.

Here are a few other injury updates Carroll provided.

• Running back Chris Carson, who returned Monday after missing four games with a foot sprain, is “a little sore coming out of the game,” Carroll said. Carson rushed for 41 yards on eight carries, including an impressive 16-yard touchdown run, and had two receptions for 18 yards against Philadelphia.

“First time he’s played in a little while. I’m anxious to see how he feels this week,” Carroll said. “… Should be fine for the ball game (vs. the Giants).”

• Cornerback Quinton Dunbar, who is on injured reserve with a knee injury, could return when he is eligible to come off IR for Week 14.

“He’s got to wait one more week before he can come back and I think he’s gonna be ready to do that,” Carroll said. “From the way things are going, he’s got a chance.”

• The Seahawks are still waiting to get official word that running back Rashaad Penny and rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor can start practice. Both are coming off knee surgeries, with Penny spending all season thus far on the PUP list and Taylor on the NFI list.

Carroll said while Taylor’s timetable for a return has changed in recent weeks, he hasn’t suffered a setback and Seattle will “get word by the end of the week.” With Penny, Carroll said he may be cleared to return to practice in the “next couple days or next Monday.”
