The Seahawks are heavily injured heading into a stretch where they will play two times in five days, and on Saturday, the team was forced to make some moves due to the injury pileup.

Seahawks added speed on defense to stop Rams, but will they be able to?

First, the Seahawks ruled out three key players for the Week 10 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams in running backs Chris Carson (foot) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) as well as defensive end Benson Mayowa (hamstring), all of whom were originally listed as questionable on Friday. They joined cornerbacks Shaquill Griffin (hamstring) and Quinton Dunbar (knee) as well as center Ethan Pocic (concussion) and defensive tackle Bryan Mone (ankle) who were ruled out of Sunday’s contest on Friday.

But the Seahawks weren’t done making moves. Also on Saturday, the Seahawks placed Mone on injured reserve, taking him off the 53-man roster for at least three weeks and added cornerback/special teams captain Neiko Thorpe from injured reserve to take Mone’s spot on the active roster.

With Mone, one of Seattle’s three defensive tackles, out for a few weeks and with Carson and Hyde out for the third game in a row, the Seahawks also added two players from the team’s practice squad for the game against the Rams. Those two players are former All-Pro defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison and running back Alex Collins.

Harrison signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad earlier this season and despite rules for 2020 allowing teams to add up to two players from the practice squad to the gameday roster each week without adding them to the 53-man roster, Harrison has yet to see the field. But with Mone out, the 2016 All-Pro will see his first game action of the season in Los Angeles.

“He worked really hard to be able to go and I’m really hoping he’ll have some success and have fun playing football again and get him back a part of it,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Friday.  “… The style of play he brings fits us really well.”

Collins was a fifth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2016 but spent just his rookie season with the Seahawks before moving on to the Baltimore Ravens, where he ran for 973 yards in 2017. Collins re-signed with Seattle a few weeks ago to the practice squad and was activated from the practice squad for last week’s game in Buffalo against the Bills, where he had two rushing attempts for five yards. He will play along with rookie back DeeJay Dallas and second-year back Travis Homer.

After Week 10’s game in Los Angeles, the Seahawks will have a quick turnaround as they host the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football in Week 11. Getting injured players like Carson, Griffin, Dunbar and Mayowa back for that contest would be big for the Seahawks as the Cardinals took the first game from Seattle in Week 7. Depending what happens Sunday with the Seahawks’ game with the Rams and the Cardinals’ game against the Bills, that Thursday game very well could determine who leads the NFC West both after Week 11 and at the end of the season.

Is it a sure thing the Seahawks move on from Ken Norton Jr. after 2020?
