LISTEN:

After a ride through the preseason with the Seahawks, Nate Boyer is preparing to travel a different route to the NFL.

Boyer, a 34-yer-old former U.S. Army Green Beret who was waived by the Seahawks during the preseason, told “Danny, Dave and Moore” that he will be in San Antonio on Sunday trying out in front of coaches for the new Major League Football (MLFB).

The league is expected to debut in 2016 with 10 teams that will play a 12-game schedule from mid-March to early-July, as a sort of football buffer during the NFL offseason. Tentative plans are to locate the spring-league franchises in cities including Eugene, Ore.; Little Rock, Ark.; Orlando, Fla. and Birmingham, Ala.

The MLFB will have some XFL-style elements to it, such as a shortened play-clock, awarding four points for field goals of 50 yards or more, and rule-changes that make it so the ground can cause a fumble.

Boyer famously taught himself the craft of long-snapping while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seahawks general manager John Schneider told Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer that Boyer was good enough to play in the NFL.

“Obviously it’s not an NFL level, but I think their vision is this being sort of a developmental league like they have the NBA D-league, so it might be a cool opportunity,” Boyer said.

Boyer said he’s been working out every day, in part to train for a climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro, but that he’s planning to once again practice his snaps every day.

“I’ve got a couple different things I’m training for but that is definitely one of them,” he said.
