Things about to get interesting for Mariners

Let the madness begin. The winter meetings are underway in Nashville and as former GM Jim Bowden told “Brock and Salk” on Friday, expect things to get crazy.

Because of the activity we have already seen with a number of trades taking place and top free agents B.J. Upton and Torii Hunter already signing, as well as MLB’s non-tender deadline being moved up, teams are further down the paths with conversations with other teams and free agents than they have been in the past.

Will the Mariners be players? Expect their name to be tied to just about anyone who can lift a bat. Jon Heyman had an excellent example of this Sunday night.

I am not attending the meetings this year but I will keep you up to date with multiple posts throughout the day with the latest news and rumors as well as some things I might hear. I also plan on addressing several of your comments from the “Splash” post. I plan to be a bit more interactive the next few days than I normally am as I will be parked at a computer for the majority of the meetings, so please, feel free to shoot me questions or comments on the posts.

With any luck, this should be an interesting few days.
