Washington Huskies senior linebacker Azeem Victor has been suspended indefinitely after he was arrested last Sunday, UW football coach Chris Petersen announced Wednesday afternoon.
“We take these matters very seriously, and have suspended Azeem from our team indefinitely as we continue to gather details about this incident,” Petersen said in a press release.
Victor was also suspended for the first game of the 2017 season for a violation of team rules.
Victor had a strong 2016 season and appeared primed to be an NFL Draft pick, but he suffered a season-ending broken leg against USC last Nov. 12. He still earned first team All-Pac-12 honors, and 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton wrote earlier this year that Victor may be the top inside linebacker prospect for the 2018 draft.
Victor’s senior season has been a much different story than the success of his junior campaign, however. He never quite found his footing in a crowded and talented linebacking corps and was moved to an edge-rushing spot last week against Stanford, a game UW lost 30-22.
