RENTON – Paul Richardson bounced back quickly from the shoulder injury he suffered on Sunday night.

Wait. That’s probably not the best choice of words because the Seahawks receiver did not bounce so much as he skidded after making a one-handed catch on the Seahawks’ opening drive against the Chargers.

Richardson suffered a sprained shoulder on the play and did not return to the game. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said afterward that Richardson would likely need some time to recover.

That made it a surprise to see Richardson on the field on Tuesday when the Seahawks returned to the practice field.

“Really surprised us,” Carroll said, “because he did bang his shoulder pretty good. But he had a good day’s work. I don’t know what that means for the weekend, but in no pads today he was able to get a lot of work and was at top speed so that was terrific.”

The Seahawks play their second preseason game on Friday night. Richardson, who is entering his fourth season, caught seven passes in the Seahawks’ two playoff games last season and was poised to pick up where he left off by catching two passes on Seattle’s first four plays Sunday in the preseason opener before he suffered the shoulder injury.
