The Seahawks have signed long snapper Drew Ferris, adding some competition for the job that opened last week when Seattle released Clint Gresham.

Ferris posted a picture to Twitter on Wednesday of him signing his contract.

He took part in the Jets’ rookie minicamp last year after going undrafted out of the University of Florida, where he was the Gators’ long snapper for three seasons. That’s Ferris in the video embedded above (yes, a long-snapper highlight video).

The other long snapper on Seattle’s roster is Andrew East, who signed a futures contract after the end of the 2015 regular season. East’s deal is for one year and $450,000, which is the minimum salary. He was in training camp with the Chiefs as a rookie last summer before he was released.

East, Ferris and any other long snapper Seattle signs will compete to replace Gresham, who had been with the Seahawks since 2010 but was released last week in a cost-cutting move.

Gresham, 29, was one year into a three-year, $2.7 million deal that would have counted $860,000 against the salary cap in 2016. His released cleared up $660,000 in cap space, taking into account $200,000 in dead money via his remaining signing-bonus proration.

Ferris is the fourth player Seattle has added in free agency this year, the others being offensive linemen J’Marcus Webb and Bradley Sowell as well as defensive tackle Sealver Siliga.
