Percy Harvin came back from injury to play his former team. That was the storyline for his Seahawks debut in 2013 when he came back from hip surgery and finally got on the field against the Vikings.
Now, he’s coming back with an eye toward facing the Seahawks. At least that looks like it’s the carrot that lured him out of retirement. Harvin – who has not played this season – is returning to the Bills, signing a one-year contract with Buffalo on Tuesday.
And it just so happens the Bills play in Seattle on Monday night.
Two things we know about Harvin at this point:
• He’s as explosive an athlete as there is in the NFL. Someone whose physical and tough and a player whom Adrian Peterson called the best football player he has called a teammate.
• He’s also incredibly difficult to manage. In fact, it wouldn’t be unfair to say impossible given that his last two coaches – Pete Carroll and then Rex Ryan – are about as accommodating as they come in professional football and things went sideways with both. And we’re not even getting into the fights that Harvin had with teammates while in Seattle, first tackling Golden Tate at some point in the days before the Super Bowl and then cold-cocking Doug Baldwin after an argument during training camp in 2014.
But Harvin’s back, presumably for at least one game. And it’s against his former team. And he’s not going to lack for motivation.
