It seems Mike Zunino has been destined to be a professional baseball player from day one.
His parents, Greg and Paola Zunino, met in 1983 when Greg played baseball professionally in Italy. At that time Greg was playing for Fortitudo Bologna, he met his future wife, Paola, as she was playing softball as a catcher for the Italian national team.
After a five-year stint in Italy, Greg and Paola came back to the United States where Greg got a job in Cape Coral, Fla. as an area scout for the Cincinnati Reds and Paola began managing condominiums.
They had Mike in 1991.
After being named as a second team All-American in high school, Mike went onto Florida to be named to two more All-American teams and won the SEC player of the year award last season as a sophomore. He has led his team the past two seasons to the college world series and hopes to return this year in what should be his final season playing for the Gators.
