Chalk Talk: Seahawks’ secondary burned by Colts

The Seahawks’ ability to prevent long pass plays was a strength of a defense that allowed the fewest points in the league last year.
“We pride ourselves on that,” coach Pete Carroll said Monday, a day after Seattle uncharacteristically allowed 73- and 29-yard touchdown passes in a loss to the Colts.
The longer of the two is the subject of this week’s edition of “Chalk Talk” with Brock Huard, which you can watch in the video above.
The 73-yard touchdown from Andrew Luck to T.Y. Hilton came late in the first quarter with Indianapolis facing a first-and-10 from their own 27 and Seattle leading 12-0. Carroll, speaking with “Brock and Danny” on 710 ESPN Seattle, chalked it up to a busted coverage.
“We misread what was going on and we should have had a real easy zone concept that took care of it and we didn’t get back there,” he said. “We got caught up and you make a mistake and they took advantage of it. That’s what their quarterback and their receiver was capable of doing and he did it a couple times and those were huge, costly plays in the game.”
