The NFL Network announced the semifinalists for the class of 2014 on Wednesday, the first step for Jones in a process that will almost certainly end with an induction into the hall of fame.

Jones, 39, made nine Pro Bowls and was named a first-team All-Pro four times during his 13 seasons, all of which he spent with Seattle. He was the anchor of an offensive line that led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl appearance during the 2005 season, and at the peak of his career he was regarded by some as the best player in football, regardless of position.

The group of 25 finalists will be reduced to 15 in January, and the class of 2014 will be chosen on Feb. 1, the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII.

The other semifinalists: Morten Andersen, Steve Atwater, Jerome Bettis, Derrick Brooks, Tim Brown, Don Coryell, Roger Craig, Terrell Davis, Edward DeBartolo, Jr., Tony Dungy, Kevin Greene, Charles Haley, Marvin Harrison, Joe Jacoby, Jimmy Johnson, John Lynch ,Karl Mecklenburg, Andre Reed, Will Shields, Michael Strahan, Paul Tagliabue, Aeneas Williams, Steve Wisniewski, George Young.
