Seahawks receiver Percy Harvin will practice again Friday, another positive sign in his attempt to return for the playoffs.

Coach Pete Carroll made the announcement Friday on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, telling “The Morning News” that Harvin will be limited again in practice.

“We’ll go today and see how it works out,” Carroll said. “He did fine yesterday. It was limited what he did and he’ll be somewhat limited today, but he’ll do more everyday. He made it through and he’s real positive about it and gonna see if he can make it, but we don’t know.”

Harvin missed Seattle’s first 10 games after undergoing offseason hip surgery, made his Seahawks debut on Nov. 17 and hadn’t even practiced – let alone played in a game – since then because of lingering soreness. That was until Thursday, when his first practice in seven weeks was an important step in his potential return for Seattle’s Jan. 11 divisional-round game at CenturyLink Field.

The Seahawks have a first-round bye after earning the NFC’s No. 1 seed, and because they have no game this weekend they are not required by the league to submit an injury report. Also, team rules prohibit reporters from detailing what happens at practice. That made Carroll’s remarks about Harvin’s limited participation – both Thursday and Friday – the first public indication about the extent to which he is practicing.

Carroll emphasized that Harvin being back on the practice field is no guarantee that he will play next weekend.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said, “but we’ll go day to day on this one and kind of keep rooting for him.”

Carroll was asked who will have the final say on whether or not Harvin plays.

“It depends how the decision goes,” he said. “If it’s a medical decision then the doctors will enter in. Otherwise, we need to see if we think he’s ready, and that will be my decision.”
