Seahawks injury updates from “The Pete Carroll Show”

One of the few things that didn’t go right for the Seahawks in their 35-6 trouncing of Arizona was a pair of injuries to wide receiver Jermaine Kearse and cornerback Tharold Simon.

Coach Pete Carroll gave updates on those players as well as offensive linemen Max Unger and Russell Okung when he joined “Brock and Salk” on 710 ESPN Seattle Monday morning:

• Carroll didn’t sound optimistic about Kearse’s chances of returning this week. Kearse injured his hamstring in the first half and didn’t return. Carroll: “He felt his hamstring, didn’t feel the big pop that guys feel but he shut down before that happened. We’ll have to wait and see, but that’s really touch-and-go to get back in a week’s time there.”

• Simon injured his shoulder in the fourth quarter, and while Carroll didn’t specify the exact nature of the issue, he seemed to confirm that Simon’s shoulder popped out of place. What is Simon’s status? “I don’t know that. (We’re going to) see how he responds,” Carroll said. “I don’t know that he’s ever had that before. Sometimes when guys have had it before it’s a little easier for them to come back, but we’ll see what happens.”

• Carroll said Okung should practice Wednesday. He missed the game due to a bruised lung that he sustained last week.

• Unger’s status remains much less certain after missing his fifth straight game due to a high ankle sprain. He returned to practice two weeks ago but suffered what Carroll characterized as a setback and didn’t practice at all last week. Carroll: “Talking with Max on the plane last night, he’s going to try to get through it. He’ll do whatever he can to get out there this week knowing that if we can get a win we’ll have a week off. All of that could be of great advantage. But we’ll have to wait and see. We’ve seen a lot of high ankle sprains that take six to eight weeks. That’s kinda the way we used to see it, but there’s been a number of guys that have made it through quicker, so it’s really frustrating for Max. He’s got one of those long-term ones, so we don’t know. We’ll wait and see.”
