With the Seahawks coming off the team’s biggest win of the season, Brock Huard wanted to know: Is this the most resilient Seattle Seahawks team in recent history?

Huard: Seahawks’ nerve-racking win over 49ers is their biggest in 3 years

“Can you make that statement 10 games in?” Huard asked on this week’s edition of the Brock and Salk podcast.

Co-host Mike Salk wasn’t so sure.

“Would you be saying that if the two games where teams had missed (field goals) at the end of the game had gone the other way?” Salk asked.

Salk was alluding both to Monday’s 27-24 overtime win over the 49ers and the team’s Week 5 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Against L.A., perennial Pro Bowler kicker Greg Zuerlein missed a 44-yard field goal at the end of regulation that gave Seattle a 30-29 victory on Thursday Night Football. And in the Seahawks’ most recent victory, recently-acquired 49ers rookie kicker Chase McLaughlin – filling in for the injured Robbie Gould – shanked a 47-yard field goal in overtime that would have won the game for San Francisco.

“The Seahawks are 8-2, but to be fair they are two buzzer-beater kicks away from being 6-4,” Salk said.

So, if those two kicks had gone through the uprights and Seattle was 6-4, therefore fighting for a Wild Card berth rather than challenging for the NFC West and a shot at the conference’s No. 1 seed, would they still be seen as resilient?

“I would still just say … just about the number of known commodities in guys playing to their absolute best level,” Huard said, “there’s not a long list for these Seahawks.”

Huard said some of Seattle’s top-paid players aren’t always playing up to their potential, which makes this season even more remarkable.

“They just have no quit in them,” he said.

More importantly, Huard believes that this is finally, truly quarterback Russell Wilson’s team.

“I think this team is taking on his personality,” Huard said.

Salk said he sees that also with defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, whose performance against the 49ers won him NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 10.

“Clowney’s got some of that same, chill vibe off the field,” Salk said.

Salk did point out one play during the Seahawks’ Monday night victory over San Francisco that showed the resiliency of the team, which came on a critical third-down in overtime.

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo tried to get a big chunk of yards with receiver Deebo Samuel, but cornerback Shaquill Griffin dove and broke the pass up at the last possible moment, forcing a San Francisco punt.

“Maybe it was a little underthrown, I don’t know, but that game was over (if the pass was completed),” Salk said.

“That was incredible,” Huard said of the play.

Huard and Salk also talked about Wilson’s MVP chances, whether the Seahawks defense has shown enough to warrant Super Bowl consideration, Husky football and more in this week’s podcast. Listen to the full episode at this link or in the player below.
